Three Sham Elections

The Awami League government monopolized power without public support through organizing three consecutive rigged elections over 16 years after seizing power. In 2014, an uncompetitive election was organized using the domesticated opposition party Jatiya Party, which had very low voter turnout. Although the opposition party participated in 2018, accusations of ballot stuffing the night before, expelling polling agents, center capturing, and widespread fraud made the election known as "Lailatul Election". In 2024, lacking a capable opposition party, the Awami League created artificial competition by fielding multiple candidates from within their own party, which analysts called a "Dummy Election".
