On May 5, 2013, Sheikh Hasina carried out a horrific massacre through her state forces in the darkness of night at the Hefajat-e-Islam mass gathering at Shapla Square in Motijheel, Dhaka. Approximately 93 people were martyred. By killing those who were most vigilant about Indian hegemony and Bangladesh's sovereignty, Sheikh Hasina essentially moved toward perpetuating her power. Several witnesses from that horrific night at Shapla Square have provided full cooperation to the July Memorial Museum. Research on the Shapla massacre by the "July Memorial Museum" is ongoing.
